(If you install Windows by using Windows Setup, you'll get the same partition layout that you did in Windows 8.1.) This allows Windows to replace and resize the partition as needed.
By default, if you install Windows using media created from Windows Imaging and Configuration Designer (ICD), you'll get a dedicated WinRE tools partition on both UEFI and BIOS-based devices, located immediately after the Windows partition. By default, WinRE is preloaded into the Windows 10 for desktop editions (Home, Pro, Enterprise, and Education) and Windows Server 2016 installations. WinRE is based on Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE), and can be customized with additional drivers, languages, Windows PE Optional Components, and other troubleshooting and diagnostic tools. Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) is a recovery environment that can repair common causes of unbootable operating systems. I'd like to know if I should worry about it, or not. Is this a problem? Why would a brand new computer have a drive that is full already? I tried googling for answers, and it seems to be a problem after upgrading to 8.1, but I can't really find any other helpful information. This computer is pretty new - a few months old, it's a Dell XPS and just upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro last week. Hi, Just wanted to know if I should be concerned by 'PBR Image' that looks pretty full. You may check the following link to know more about Windows recovery options. They are important for recovering the system in case of a software issue and should not be deleted.
PBR Image drive and WINRETOOLS drive are the recovery partitions and contain the recovery image (PBR Image) and Windows Recovery Environment tools (WINRETOOLS). MBR will be created when the first partition on the hard drive is created and it is a very important data structure on the first sector of disk, which contains the partition table for the drive as well as a small amount of executable code for the boot start.
Master Boot Record (MBR) belongs to boot record, along with Boot Configuration Data (BCD). In your diskpart image is a volume 3 which is not. That is 4 partitions and the one strange one. Is it necessary, and must I somehow enlarge the PBR partition in order to do the backup? In your small image of Drive Optimization I think I see a C: partition, ESP, WinRETools, and PBR. It is in red indicating that there is inadequate room and is always checked. This Windows 10 partition appears when I attempt to create a new backup of the files required to backup and restore windows.
